Folks often ask me how you go about sharing kitchen space with Gluten Eaters. Years of practice have left me with my own safety tips (GF goods on top shelves, separate pots, etc.) that are heavy on common sense, light on special equipment. (A bit sad, really - as I love any excuse to buy bins and buckets, dividers and jars.
IKEA and
Container Store = porn emporiums.)
One often overlooked GF safety hazard concerns dishes. If you're lucky enough to have a dishwasher, you can pretty much share most dishes and cutlery that fit in ye olde dishwasher. But for those of us kickin' it old school (read: you ARE the dishwasher), it's a good idea to use a separate sponge for your dishes and pans. It can be a pain in the tuchas to keep your sponge dedicated GF; behold, a solution:
GF sponge on top,
narsty other sponge on the bottom. (Everything GF should
always go on top, to help reduce risk of cross-contamination.) Brilliant. Available from one of my favorite local businesses,
uncommongoods, $28.
